The House of Representatives Committee on Federal Character has summoned the Director General (DG) of NIMASA, Dayo Mobereola, after he failed to show up for an important hearing. The Committee, led by its chairman, Idris Wase, was upset that Mobereola sent a representative instead of attending personally.
Mobereola had sent NIMASA’s Director of Administration, Osembi Osigche, to speak on his behalf, but Wase rejected this, saying only the DG could answer certain critical questions. He also criticized Mobereola for not signing the letter explaining his absence himself and accused him of showing a lack of respect for the Committee.
Wase stressed that the DG must appear in person to uphold the constitutional role of the Committee. The hearing was postponed to July 30, 2024, with the expectation that Mobereola will attend.
Osigche explained that the DG was away on an international assignment but assured the Committee that he would attend the next meeting. Despite this, Wase insisted that Mobereola must personally appear to address NIMASA’s responsibilities.
