The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged security agencies to stop setting fire to vessels carrying stolen crude oil. This came after a recent incident in Delta State where a vessel was set ablaze by the Joint Task Force, which had intercepted the ship carrying stolen crude. The House expressed concern that burning such vessels could negatively affect the livelihoods of Niger Delta residents, particularly fishermen, and vowed to look into the details of the incident.

The House also took action regarding the tragic death of two-year-old Ivan Omorhiakogbe, who was killed by stray bullets during a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) operation in Delta State. His younger brother, Eromosele, was injured in the eye and had to undergo surgery. The House condemned the killing and called for the police to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the tragic event.

Furthermore, lawmakers decided to investigate the claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL) about the situation.
