Reps Orders JAMB To Remit N3.6bn To Federal Gov’t Within 1 Month

The House of Representatives has instructed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to pay N3.602 billion to the Federal Government’s Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) within 30 days. This order came from Rep. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, during an investigative hearing in Abuja.

The move follows a complaint from the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), which accused JAMB of not remitting its full surplus revenue to the federal government. The issue arose over whether JAMB should be paying 25% or 50% of its revenue. JAMB’s Director of Finance, Mufutau Bello, defended the board, saying it had been remitting 25% as allowed by the Accountant-General’s office, even reducing registration fees to ease the burden on Nigerians. However, the FRC insists JAMB should pay 50%.

The FRC reported that JAMB owed N390.725 million in 2021, which increased to N3.602 billion by 2022. Despite several reminders, JAMB did not respond. The Public Accounts Committee has now ordered JAMB to pay the N3.602 billion within 30 days and provide proof of payment.
