The Ogun State House of Assembly has called on Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka, the federal lawmaker representing Ifo/Ewekoro, to explain his involvement in leasing government land in Ewekoro for 99 years. This comes after the former chairman of the local council, Hon. Sikiru Adesina, admitted he leased the land to Isiaka without following the correct legal process.
Adesina testified before the House Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption, revealing that Isiaka obtained several land leases for himself and his companies. Although Adesina said these leases were approved by the Finance and General Purpose Committee of Ewekoro Local Government, they did not comply with Ogun State’s laws regarding land transactions.
The committee also heard from Mrs. Kemi Ogunyewo, the Head of Local Government Administration, who provided records showing that four pieces of land were leased to Isiaka, contradicting Adesina’s claim of just one. Some of the leased land, including two plots with a shopping complex, has not paid rent for the past seven years.
As a result, the Ogun State Assembly has summoned Hon. Isiaka to explain his involvement in the land leases. The committee will reconvene next Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, to continue its investigation.
