The House of Representatives is moving forward with a N288 billion supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCTA). On Wednesday, the bill was approved in both the first and second readings.

Out of the N288 billion, N31.1 billion will go toward overhead costs, and N256.9 billion will be for capital projects. After the second reading, the bill was sent to the Committee on FCT, led by Rep. Aliyu Muktar Betara, for further review. The committee, after meeting with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is expected to present its report for final approval on Thursday.

Rep. Betara highlighted the need to fast-track the budget approval to ensure important projects in the capital city can begin on time. Most of the projects were already planned in the 2024 budget, with only two new items added. The Senate committee on FCT is also reviewing the supplementary budget.
