The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to ensure that state governments and security agencies provide better security and living conditions for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. This comes after the case of a missing corps member, Okeke Chukwuemeka Godwin, who disappeared while serving in Ondo State.
Rep. Nnolim Nnaji (PDP, Enugu) moved a motion expressing concern that Godwin, a youth corp member from Enugu State, has been missing since May 9, 2024, after his parents couldn’t reach him. Despite their efforts to find him, including a visit to his workplace and residence in Ondo, there has been no useful information. His family reported the case to the police and NYSC officials, but there have been no updates.
The House is urging the Inspector General of Police and NYSC officials to step up the search for Godwin and make sure all corps members are safe. They also pointed out the lack of proper accommodation and security in some states, which they believe has put the safety of corps members at risk.
