The House of Representatives’ Committee on Sports has raised concerns with the Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan-Enoh, about the N2.65 billion allocated in the 2024 budget for projects at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The funds are planned for perimeter fencing, solar streetlights, and roof repairs. Committee Chairman, Hon. Kabiru Amadu, asked the Minister to clarify the purpose of these allocations and share the ministry’s achievements in the past year.

Senator Enoh explained that the budget is still being implemented and mentioned that his leadership has helped revitalize the stadium. He also highlighted the concession of the National Stadium in Lagos and the passage of the National Anti-Doping Bill as significant achievements. However, his time as minister has been criticized due to Nigeria’s disappointing performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the country did not win any medals, despite spending N9 billion.
