The House of Representatives has asked the Ministry of Aviation to stop issuing airstrip licenses to private individuals and organizations and to revoke those already granted. This move is aimed at improving national security.
The call came after Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gumi raised concerns over a recently approved airstrip for the Living Faith Church in Ogun State. He warned that allowing private airstrips could facilitate illegal activities like smuggling weapons and drugs, which could worsen security problems in the country.
The House referred the issue to its Committees on Aviation and Legislative Compliance to ensure the resolution is carried out.
