The House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee has raised concerns with Dr. Yakubu Adam, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works, over the N1.46 billion allocated for the incomplete Gidanwaya-Guaran Dutse-Waman Rafi-Saminaka-Kano road project. This came after Adam failed to attend two earlier invitations to the committee.
During the hearing on Tuesday, committee chairman Hon. Bamidele Salam explained that the road project was funded by a loan from the federal government and was supposed to be completed within a year after it was awarded in October 2022. Despite this, the project has not started, and the contractor has already received full payment. The committee asked Adam to return on Monday with all the relevant documents for further investigation. Adam responded by saying the payment covered only part of the 133km stretch, and the project was being done in phases due to limited funds.
