The House Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning has expressed disappointment with the poor execution of federal projects in Akwa Ibom State. During an inspection visit, the committee criticized the slow progress on the Renewed Hope Estate Project in Uyo and the poor quality of work on the Umu Etuk-Spencer Esin slum road in Oron.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante Dagomie, blamed the four contractors handling the projects for their inefficiency. He noted that despite receiving 30% of the project funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, the contractors had completed less than 6% of the 250 housing units in Uyo. The project, which began in June 2024, was supposed to be finished by September 2024.
Abiante called on the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, to ensure only skilled and trustworthy contractors are engaged in future federal projects.
