At the closing ceremony of the 10th Senate President’s Cup, held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja, Nwoko announced his plans to collaborate with the tournament’s organizers to further enhance the platform for young athletes.
The tournament, tagged the Renewed Hope Edition, featured under-18 boys’ teams from across Nigeria, showcasing their talent and determination on the field. My passion for sports also inspired me to establish the Sports University, which I hope will host the next edition of this competition,” he added.
The final match of the tournament delivered excitement as Greatness Sporting Club from Ebonyi State triumphed over Qatar Academy of Borno State in a tense penalty shootout after both teams ended regular play tied. In the third-place match, Kebbi Selected from Kebbi State edged out Tanko Baba Academy of Nasarawa State with a narrow 5-4 victory in another penalty shootout.
The matches demonstrated the depth of talent among the participating teams and reinforced the importance of platforms like the Senate President’s Cup in providing opportunities for young athletes to shine.
To encourage the players and reward their efforts, Senator Nwoko donated ₦10 million to the four semi-finalist teams. The funds were distributed to support the athletes and their respective clubs, underscoring his commitment to nurturing sports at the grassroots level.
