Reps Committee Chairman Calls for Youth-Focused Policies to Boost Renewable Energy in Africa at COP29

Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, the Chairman of the House Committee on Renewable Energy, has called for policies that support young people in the renewable energy sector, especially in Nigeria and other African countries. He suggested offering tax breaks, vocational grants, and making sure that young people and lawmakers are included in discussions about climate change and energy transitions.

Ogene made these comments during a side event at the COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. The event was organized by his committee and INCLUDE, a platform based in the Netherlands. The session, called “Driving the Just Transition: Labor-Based Incentives and Youth-Centric Policies for a Sustainable Future,” focused on creating fair and inclusive policies for renewable energy in Africa.
