The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out airstrikes in the Lake Chad region, targeting and neutralizing a significant number of terrorists in the notorious Jubillaram area, located within the Tumbuns enclave. This operation is being hailed as a major victory in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the region.
According to a statement released on Monday by Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, the operation was executed on Saturday under the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (AC OPHK). The mission, described as a precision strike, delivered a decisive blow to the terrorist group, destroying their hideouts and disrupting their logistics.
A Key Stronghold Targeted
Jubillaram has long been identified as a crucial base for the terrorists, serving as both a food storage hub and a sanctuary for their top commanders and fighters. Intelligence reports indicated that the site was deeply entrenched, with critical infrastructure hidden under dense vegetation, making it a well-camouflaged hideout.
“The area was linked to recent attacks, including the assault on our troops in Kareto on November 16, 2024,” Akinboyewa explained. Following this intelligence, the NAF conducted extensive surveillance missions to confirm the presence of terrorist activity and pinpoint key targets.
How the Operation Unfolded
The airstrikes were carried out with precision, using fighter jets to destroy the identified structures, which were primarily used as storage facilities for food and other supplies. This disruption is expected to significantly affect the terrorists’ logistical capabilities, making it harder for them to sustain their operations.
In addition to the initial strikes, mop-up operations were conducted to ensure complete success. NAF personnel used cannons to target and eliminate terrorists attempting to flee the scene.
“The terrorists were taken by surprise, and the operation was executed without any collateral damage,” Akinboyewa added.
Disrupting Enemy Operations
One of the key outcomes of the operation was the destruction of food storage facilities, which had been a lifeline for the terrorists in the region. By targeting these supply chains, the NAF has weakened the group’s ability to regroup and launch further attacks.
This operation not only neutralized a significant number of fighters but also dealt a blow to the group’s morale and organizational structure. It is seen as a step toward diminishing their capacity to carry out future assaults on civilian and military targets.
Intelligence Played a Crucial Role
The success of the mission was largely attributed to days of thorough Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. These efforts allowed the Air Force to map out the terrorists’ movements, identify their hideouts, and plan a focused attack that minimized risks to civilians and surrounding areas.
“The intelligence gathering was meticulous,” Akinboyewa emphasized. “It enabled us to strike with precision and ensure that our actions would have a lasting impact on the terrorists’ operational capabilities.”
Commitment to Defending Nigeria
This mission is part of the broader efforts under Operation Hadin Kai, which combines air and ground forces to tackle the insurgency in northeastern Nigeria and its surrounding regions. The operation underscores the Nigerian military’s commitment to safeguarding the country and its citizens.
“The Nigerian Air Force remains resolute in its mission to defend our nation against those who threaten its peace and prosperity,” Akinboyewa stated. “Our actions, whether independent or in support of ground forces, are aimed at bringing every enemy of Nigeria to justice.”
A Message to Terrorist Groups
The airstrikes serve as a clear message to terrorist groups operating in the region: their hideouts, supply chains, and command structures are not safe from the reach of the Nigerian military. The operation highlights the capability and determination of the NAF to carry out precise, impactful strikes that disrupt and dismantle enemy networks.
Looking Ahead
While this operation is a significant victory, the military acknowledges that the fight against insurgency is far from over. The success of missions like this one builds momentum for future operations and boosts the morale of both military personnel and civilians affected by the conflict.
The Nigerian Air Force has pledged to sustain its efforts, combining airstrikes, surveillance, and collaboration with ground forces to ensure that terrorist threats are effectively neutralized.
“Our goal is clear,” Akinboyewa concluded. “We will continue to pursue those who seek to destabilize our country until they are completely eradicated. Nigeria will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger.”
This successful operation is a reminder of the importance of strategic intelligence and a coordinated military response in the fight against terrorism. It also highlights the Nigerian Air Force’s growing capabilities in precision strikes and its commitment to protecting the nation.
