The House of Representatives Committee on Livestock Development has pledged to work closely with the Ministry of Livestock Development to unlock the sector’s potential, which could boost Nigeria’s economy by ₦33 trillion.
Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Wale Raji, emphasized the urgency of transforming the livestock industry to create jobs and drive economic growth. He expressed confidence in the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, citing his expertise and experience as crucial for the sector’s success.
“It’s regrettable that this ministry is coming so late, but we believe it’s a step in the right direction. With proper oversight, we’ll ensure the sector delivers on its promises,” Raji said during the Committee’s inaugural meeting with the Ministry.
Speaking during the public hearing Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Maiha, highlighted the sector’s vast opportunities, including attracting investments in ranching and dairy farming. He urged state governments to establish dedicated Ministries of Livestock to ensure seamless collaboration with the Federal Ministry.
“This sector holds immense potential. With proper unbundling, it can attract capital, create jobs, and boost economic growth. We have strong political support from the President and are ready to deliver,” Maiha said.
