Stakeholders in Nigeria’s road transport sector has largely supported a proposal to create a special armed squad for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) during a public hearing at the house of representatives.

Retired FRSC officers shared experiences of attacks and emphasized the need for better protection. FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed highlighted the global standard of arming road safety officers for protection. The bill also includes stricter penalties for road offenses. Lawmakers are continuing to consider the proposal, weighing both security needs and concerns about potential risks.
