CSOs Urge Tinubu to Halt Niger Delta Oil Asset Sales

Share

A coalition of civil society organizations (CSOs) has urging President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to stop the sale of oil assets by international oil companies (IOCs) in the Niger Delta, especially Shell’s plan to sell its shares in Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

The CSOs are concerned about the environmental damage and health issues caused by decades of oil exploration in the region. They call for a halt to further asset sales until the companies address their past environmental damage, provide compensation for local communities, and ensure proper cleanup.

The group also demands transparency, consultation with affected communities, and accountability from oil companies. The petition, signed by several organizations, highlights the need to protect the Niger Delta’s environment and its people from further harm.
