The Nigerian Military under Operation FANSAN YAMMA destroyed Lakurawas Terrorists Group (LTG) hideouts at Gidan Bisa and Gidan Runtuwa in Jirikon Forest in Silame LGA of Sokoto State on the 25th December.
In a statement signed by the Director, Defence Media Operations – Major General Edward Buba said the airstrike was necessitated after human intelligence confirmed the prescence of significant terrorist activity within the general area.
Buba maintained that the airstrike achieved its primary objective of neutralizing the Lakurawa terrorists in their concentration area destroying key infrastructure used by the terrorists including arms cache and logistics dumps.
He however regretted the death of ten(10) innocent citizens which he said was as a result of a secondary explosion caused by hoarded ammunition in the area.
Meanwhile,the military said the locals confirmed that Lakurawas terrorists stayed in the village and used the general areas as a staging area for their operation. ISR and HUMINT reports prior to the operation consistently indicated the hideout was a high-concentration terrorist location.
Buba said efforts are ongoing to determine whether or not the ten people killed were terrorist collaborators.
