The military has successfully eliminated over a thousand terrorist commanders, leaders and combatants in the Year 2024.
This was revealed by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba during the End of Year media briefing on military operations for the year 2024.
Buba said during the course of the year, the military has faced several threats across the country ranging from armed banditry, kidnapping for ransom, crude oil theft, violent extremism, insurgency as well as terrorism among others.
He said despite the threats; troops
significantly degraded the fighting capabilities of terrorists by neutralizing 10,937 terrorists, arrested 12,538 and rescuing 7,063 hostages. Furthermore, troops recovered 8,815 weapons, 228,004 ammunitions and denied the oil theft of an estimated sum over #68 billion Naira, (N68,453,376,040.00) only.
Some of those eliminated in the course of the year include: Dutse Mainasara Idda, Mallam Saleh Umaru,
Mohammed Amadu, Chinemerem (aka Bam Bam), Jeremiah Uzuoma (aka Escoba), Tochukwu Awo (aka Ojoto) and Egwuatu amongst others.
The director however urged Nigerians not to succumb to propaganda by the terrorists which undermines the efforts of the military. He noted that the truth is always the first casualty in a war while dismissing the threats made by terrorists calling them “dead men walking”.
According to the director, the troops will continue their relentless and painful pressure on terrorist enclaves, hideouts and strongholds as an incentive to defeat the terrorist as well as dismantle their terror infrastructure across the country.
