Reps. Slam Customs, Immigration Chiefs Over Absence at Key Hearing

Share

The House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise has raised concerns after top officials from key government agencies failed to attend a crucial hearing on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) modernization project and border management.

The hearing was meant to review the e-Customs partnership with the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) and discuss security issues related to Nigeria’s borders. However, both the Comptroller General of Customs and the Immigration Service head did not show up, leaving the meeting unable to proceed.

Lawmakers were upset by their absence, stressing the importance of holding these officials accountable. The committee plans to look into how TMP has managed the e-Customs system, including their selection process and the introduction of modern scanners for faster goods clearance.

The meeting has been postponed to ensure the relevant officials are present, as lawmakers stress the need for better transparency and improved border security for the country’s growth and safety.
