President Bola Tinubu has approved N100 billion to provide solar-powered energy to public institutions as part of his 2025 agenda.
The Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mr. Abba Aliyu, shared the news after presenting the agency’s 2024 budget performance and 2025 projections.
Mr. Aliyu explained that the funding is for the National Public Sector Solarization Initiative, which aims to replace the use of diesel-powered generators with solar energy in government offices and other public facilities.
He said the move is intended to cut the cost of governance by reducing reliance on expensive fuel for power. “This project will save public institutions a lot of money that they currently spend on generators and diesel,” Mr. Aliyu said.
“The N100 billion allocated for this initiative will help solarize public institutions and reduce energy costs.”
He also emphasized that this is the largest budget allocation for REA in Nigeria’s history, and the initiative will play a significant role in advancing the socio-economic development goals of President Tinubu’s administration.
