The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, revealed yesterday that several major capital projects were completed in 2024 under the ministry, even though no capital funds were allocated to them.
Speaking at the 2025 budget defense session with the National Assembly’s Joint Committee on Interior, Tunji-Ojo explained that some of the projects had been delayed since 1999 because contractors failed to fulfill their agreements, either due to breaches of contract or issues with Public-Private Partnerships (PPP).
He said the ministry was able to complete these projects by reviewing and enforcing the existing contracts, making sure contractors delivered what they promised.
He gave an example of a Visa Approval Centre (VAC) project where the contractor had not built the center, but the ministry ensured it was finally completed.
