The APC has said opposition figures like Atiku, Peter Obi, and recently, aggrieved leaders like Mallam Nasir El-Rufai have accused the party of being complicit in the internal corrosion of opposition parties and described their cry as pitiful, and an incompetent alibi for their crass failure to manage their own affairs

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary- Felix Morka, the All Progressives Congress (APC) highlighted that Atiku’s tenure as Vice President was marked by significant electoral malpractice, particularly during the 2003 and 2007 elections, which were described as the worst in Nigeria’s political history. The statement referenced Atiku’s former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, who famously described elections as a “do or die affair.” The APC argued that the current electoral process is much more credible than in the past, questioning Atiku’s assertions about the state of democracy today.

The statement further emphasized the constitutional role of the judiciary in adjudicating electoral disputes, countering Atiku’s criticism of judicial involvement as a threat to democracy. It also pointed out the irony in Atiku’s position, given his history of using the courts to advance his political ambitions. The party called for Atiku to allow the democratic process to proceed without interference and to focus on rebuilding the PDP instead.

He described Atiku’s allegation that the APC-led administration was paying out 50 Million Naira to some opposition figures as bogus and laughable. “Atiku knows that his political desperation is responsible for the PDP’s catastrophic disintegration. Peddling rumors and unsubstantiated allegations should be beneath anyone in the standing of an elder statesman, a former Vice President and a serial contestant for the exalted office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Furthermore, the APC dismissed Atiku’s allegations that the APC was financially incentivizing opposition leaders to destabilize their parties . The statement accused Atiku of political desperation, suggesting that his actions were contributing to the PDP’s decline. It called for a more constructive approach from Atiku, urging him to prioritize the needs of the Nigerian populace over petty political maneuvering.

In conclusion, the APC’s statement criticized Atiku and other opposition figures for their inability to manage their parties and for attempting to shift blame onto the party.

The party asserted that Nigerians are aware of the true motivations behind the allegations made by desperate politicians and encouraged citizens to remain focused on the real issues facing the country as the 2027 general elections approach.
