The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has directed the EFCC and ICPC to investigate two former Permanent Secretaries of the Ministry of Labour, Williams Alo and Yerima Tafa, over a N3.2 billion financial infraction.

Committee Chairman Hon. Bamidele Salam (PDP, Osun) revealed that the ministry ignored seven invitations to respond to 32 audit queries from the 2020 audit report.

He condemned the increasing disregard for parliamentary oversight by MDAs, warning that the House would not tolerate further non-compliance. The committee also gave the current Permanent Secretary, Saliu Usman, and officials from three other ministries 72 hours to appear and respond to audit queries or risk sanctions.

A committee member, Emeka Chinedu, expressed concern over the Labour Minister’s refusal to cooperate, despite being a former lawmaker. The committee vowed to enforce accountability and address outstanding audit issues before the 2022 report submission in April.
