Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for urgent action to address insecurity, poverty, and infrastructural decay in Nigeria’s North-West.
Speaking at the inauguration of the House Committee on the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), he stressed the need for strategic interventions and innovative financing to drive sustainable development.
Abbas praised President Tinubu’s regional development policies and urged the NWDC to develop a 10-year strategic plan while ensuring transparency and accountability. He highlighted the impact of insecurity on industries and agriculture, warning that inaction would worsen the region’s crisis.
House Committee Chairman Hon. Gumi pledged to oversee NWDC activities rigorously, focusing on security, economic revitalization, and infrastructure. He outlined plans for budget alignment, private sector partnerships, and regular progress reviews.
Hon.Gumi also unveiled a work plan emphasizing youth empowerment, security, and economic growth. Both leaders called for collaboration among stakeholders, emphasizing that regional development is a national priority.
