The Osun State Caucus in the House of Representatives has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the growing political crisis in the state by directing security agencies to restore law and order.
The crisis arose from conflicting interpretations of a Court of Appeal ruling on the removal of local government chairmen. While the court nullified a previous judgment declaring their tenure illegal, it did not explicitly reinstate them.
Despite this, some former APC-backed chairmen have allegedly forcefully reoccupied their offices, leading to violent clashes across the state. At a press conference, caucus leader Bamidele Salam accused the APC of attempting an illegal takeover of local councils and warned that Osun was at risk of descending into chaos.
He alleged that security agencies were complicit in the crisis and that Minister Gboyega Oyetola was behind the forceful takeovers.
The caucus called on Tinubu to order security forces to restore peace and to advise the APC leadership in Osun to abandon their actions. They reaffirmed their support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and insisted that the upcoming local government elections should proceed without interference.
