Reps to Investigate Alleged USAID Sponsorship of Boko Haram

The House of Representatives has resolved to establish a special committee to investigate allegations that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding Boko Haram.

The decision follows claims by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry, who alleged that USAID has been used to finance Boko Haram and other terrorist organizations globally.

In a motion sponsored by Rep. Inuwa Garba from Gombe State, lawmakers expressed concern that Boko Haram has continued to threaten Nigeria’s sovereignty since 2009, killing thousands of innocent people and destroying property.

The allegation has sparked widespread concern among Nigerians, prompting the House to take action.

Adopting the motion, the House also directed an investigation into all Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other agencies implicated in the allegation, particularly those operating in northeastern Nigeria.
