The House of Representatives has directed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to appoint a substantive Auditor-General for the Area Councils, citing delays in transmitting audited financial reports due to the vacant position.

During a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing on February 26, 2025, PAC Chairman Rep. Bamidele Salam emphasized the need for urgent intervention, recalling a similar delay in appointing the Auditor-General for the Federation. The motion, moved by Hon. Obordor Mitema and seconded by Hon. Usman Bala, was unanimously adopted.

The Acting Auditor-General, Mr. Abdullahi Ibn Salihu, attributed financial infractions—including unsubmitted audit reports and unremitted pension deductions—to previous administrations. In response, the committee formed a five-member subcommittee, led by Hon. Tochukwu Okere, to investigate and make recommendations.

FCT Area Council Chairmen from AMAC and Bwari attended the hearing, while Kuje and Kwali were represented by their vice chairmen.
