The House of Representatives has called on Multichoice to suspend its planned 20%-25% subscription price increase in Nigeria, pending an investigation by its Committee on Commerce. The committee will assess the arbitrary price hikes and recommend cost-effective policies within four weeks.
The resolution followed a motion by Hon. Esosa Iyawe (Oredo, Edo State), who noted that this would be the second price hike in less than a year, following a controversial increase in May 2024. He highlighted public frustration over frequent price hikes without service improvements and the lack of competition in the pay-TV sector.
The House aims to protect consumers from unfair pricing and ensure better regulation of the industry.
