Nigeria’s Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, has pledged support for the construction of a convocation pavilion at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), calling it “unacceptable” for the institution to hold ceremonies under canopies.
Kalu, a 1998 law graduate, made the announcement during UNICAL’s 50th-anniversary celebrations. He urged alumni to contribute and assured that the project would be closely supervised for quality.
Vice Chancellor Florence Obi welcomed the initiative, revealing that the pavilion, named after Kalu, will include a 6,000-seat hall and a theatre arts facility.
