President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law three significant bills: the South-West Development Commission Bill, the South-South Development Commission Bill, and the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025.
A statement released on Tuesday by Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, described the move as a milestone in the administration’s efforts to promote regional development and uphold integrity in sports.
The newly established South-West and South-South Development Commissions are expected to drive economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and create employment opportunities in their respective regions. The commissions follow the earlier establishment of the South-East Development Commission, reinforcing the government’s commitment to balanced and inclusive development across the country.
“These commissions will serve as key drivers of industrialization, economic prosperity, and social progress, ensuring that all regions receive attention and support for their development needs,” the statement read.
In addition, the Nigeria Anti-Doping Bill, 2025 strengthens the country’s commitment to fair sports practices by domesticating the UNESCO International Convention Against Doping in Sports. The law aims to promote clean and fair competition, protect Nigerian athletes, and align the nation with global best practices in sports governance.
The signing of these bills reflects President Tinubu’s broader vision for national transformation, regional empowerment, and Nigeria’s continued prominence on the global stage.
