NIGERIA CUSTOMS SERVICE DENOUCES FAKE TENURE EXTENSION ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPTROLLER-GENERAL

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has refuted a fake report allegedly originating from the State House, claiming an extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR. The NCS categorically states that this information is false and misleading.

In a statement signed by ABDULLAHI MAIWADA, Assistant Comptroller of Customs-National Public Relations Officer, stated that the appointment and tenure extension of the Comptroller-General of Customs is solely at the discretion of the President in accordance with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant public service regulations. “As of now, no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities.The leadership of the NCS remains focused on its core responsibilities, including trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security. Under the leadership of CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, the Service continues to drive key reforms to modernize customs operations, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and contribute to national economic growth”.

The NCS urges the public and stakeholders to rely only on official communication channels for accurate information. Any updates regarding appointments or tenure decisions will be formally announced through the appropriate government authorities.

The Service appreciates the ongoing support of stakeholders and remains committed to upholding transparency, professionalism, and dedicated service to the nation.
