The House of Representatives Committee on Nutrition and Food Security has threatened to issue arrest warrants for several key agricultural agencies that failed to appear before its ongoing investigation into the Anchor Borrowers Scheme and other federal agricultural programs.
Chairman Hon. Dr. Chike Okafor expressed disappointment over the absence of agencies like the Bank of Industry, NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, NAQS, NALDA, and the National Agricultural Seed Council. He emphasized that the probe aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of funds allocated for food security.
The Committee is reviewing how over ₦1.12 trillion was disbursed by the CBN under the Anchor Borrowers Programme, alongside other interventions by NIRSAL, BOI, and the Bank of Agriculture. The CBN, represented at the hearing, confirmed the disbursement of ₦1.21 trillion, including ₦871 billion to various beneficiaries.
The probe continues, with the Committee insisting all absent agencies must appear before the panel.
