Deputy Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has called for the development of strong post-war recovery frameworks to ensure lasting peace and stability in conflict-affected regions.
Speaking at the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Kalu emphasized that addressing post-conflict challenges is essential for transforming the lessons of the past into a foundation for peace.
He highlighted the ongoing instability in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), stressing that weak governance and poor reconstruction efforts hinder sustainable peace. Kalu called for international cooperation, institutional strengthening, economic recovery, and social reconciliation as critical steps for achieving lasting peace.
