Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed confidence that the Southeast region will deliver over 70% of its votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a reception in his honor by the Atuma Grace Movement in Ntalakwu, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu attributed this anticipated support to President Tinubu’s commitment to the development of Igbo land, notably through the establishment and funding of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Kalu highlighted that President Tinubu is the first Nigerian leader to fulfill post-war promises made to the Igbo people, emphasizing the significance of the SEDC in addressing the region’s developmental needs. He also welcomed several notable figures who defected from the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, interpreting these moves as signs of growing confidence in the APC’s leadership within the Southeast.
Furthermore, Kalu criticized reports of political interference preventing traditional rulers from engaging with federal officials or attending events supporting President Tinubu. He called for an end to such undemocratic practices, urging for unity and inclusive governance in Abia State.
