The Africa Polling Institute (API) has announced plans to release its 2025 Nigeria Social Cohesion Survey on July 3, 2025. The report aims to address the gap between data availability and its practical application in fostering national unity and sustainable development.

According to API’s Executive Director, Prof. Bell Ihua, the survey will provide crucial insights into public sentiment on trust, civic engagement, solidarity, and unity. The findings will guide public policy, elevate journalism, and enhance national discourse.

The report highlights the need for citizens to shift their loyalties from ethnic or religious identities to a shared Nigerian identity. Prof. Ihua emphasized that “only when we begin to see ourselves first and foremost as Nigerians can we build the bridges necessary for a unified and peaceful country.”

The upcoming survey is the fourth in a series of national social cohesion reports by API. The institute and its collaborators are optimistic that the findings will inform government decisions and help media practitioners and civil society actors craft messages that build trust, heal divisions, and drive national cohesion.
