Suspended Kogi Central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan,showed up at the National Assembly on Tuesday morning in defiance of her suspension. She arrived in a convoy and was stopped at the second security gate while her supporters chanted slogans declaring her their only senator.
The Senate has warned her not to attempt resuming her duties until her suspension expires, insisting that there is no valid court order forcing them to reinstate her.
A recent court ruling only advised the Senate to consider reviewing her suspension but did not make it mandatory. The court also found Akpoti-Uduaghan guilty of contempt, fined her ₦5 million, and ordered her to publish an apology which she has reportedly not done.
Despite this, she insists she can return to the Senate, an action the Senate says has no legal backing.
