The Joint Senate and House Committee on Livestock Development has urged Minister Alhaji Idi Muktar to address the ongoing farmers-herders crises.
The committee made the call during the minister’s 2025 budget defense. Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong stressed the need for public sensitization on ranching to correct misconceptions and promote peaceful coexistence.
Senator Abdul Ningi and other committee members highlighted the ministry’s role in harnessing livestock development for national growth. The committee emphasized priorities such as value chain development, infrastructure, climate change, and youth and women empowerment.
Adequate funding and awareness campaigns were also recommended to expand livestock initiatives beyond cattle rearing. The minister disclosed a proposed budget of N10 billion for infrastructure and N1.8 billion for overheads, with plans to address the sector’s needs across all regions. A ministry office is being renovated under the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
