Reps Order IGP Egbetokun to Arrest FCDA Officials Over Alleged Building Code Violation

The House of Representatives has ordered the arrest of FCDA officials, including Executive Secretary Richard Dauda, Director of Development Control Muktar Galadima, and the Director of Regional Planning, over an alleged breach of building codes in the FCT.

Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Mike Etaba, invoked the Legislative Houses Powers and Privileges Act, 2017, after the officials ignored summons to appear before the committee. He directed IGP Kayode Egbetokun to ensure their arrest and compel them to testify on March 28.

During an on-site inspection at the disputed Guzape building site, the site engineer admitted he had no approved building plan. Etaba stated, “FCDA officials have refused to provide the necessary documents for our investigation.”

The case stems from a petition by Elder Leke Abejide, Chairman of the House Committee on Customs, whose legal counsel, Samuel Ajayi, claimed that the construction violated FCT building codes and trespassed on his client’s property.

The committee’s hearing continues on March 28, where the arrested officials are expected to provide full disclosure on the project.
